NYC bans smoking in parks and public places.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/feb/03/new-york-smoking-ban-outdoors

On second thought. I like this law. Life should be safe for everyone, and it is the responsibility of our government to make sure that we're all as safe as we can be.

It makes me wonder how many more things we can do to improve everyone's safety. 2nd hand smoke is one danger that people face on their way to work, but what about others?

Car accidents are very dangerous, and the exhaust is poison! We should immediately enforce a car ban. That would be so wonderful and safe for everyone.

But then everyone would be crammed into buses and trains. Well, getting hit by a bus is even worse than getting hit by a car, and there's still an exhaust problem. Trains and buses both put people in close proximity to one another which can start epidemics.

Nope. The only truly safe way for people to go to work is to already be at work. We'll have people sleep at their jobs!

Hmmm, but then they'd get no exercise and that would be unsafe for health reason. Ah ha! We'll make exercise bikes in the cages--- I mean, places of work.

But exercise bikes aren't as fun as walking... No problem... we'll just make people use the bikes from 6:30 and 7:30 pm each day, or they won't get their feed... I mean food...

But now that I think about it, if people can't leave their "work places" they won't be able to have families, and so there will be no children.

It's all for the best I suppose. We'll just freeze everyone in a ultra-safe stasis chambers all over the city until we can figure out a way to make the world safe enough to live in.

Either that or we can all just accept that life is dangerous, and not stress ourselves out on this crusade of restrictive regulation to sterilize the planet.
You want fresh air? Don't live in New York fucking city!

This country was not designed so the weak-kneed, faint-hearted, gluten-free, carb-smart, most-anal-common-denominator, goody-two-shoes, jogger-types could dictate policy for the rest of us.

Why not make an ordnance that the entire city has to pull the stick out of it's collective ass, take Jager shots and go to see a punk rock show in Brooklyn once a month?

I think that would do the city a lot of good.

Abortion Solution

I've a real solution to the abortion situation.
The problem: no one can decide when it's a baby.
The far right are wrong. It is not the moment of conception.
The far left are wrong. It is not the moment of birth.

The reason this line is so blurry is that it depends on technology. As technology improves the point at which the baby can live independently from the mother changes and hence the point as which it becomes an independent life changes. The woman has the right to make decisions about her own body, but not to make life or death decisions for her children.

Here's my solution. We make it the hospital's charter to attempt to save the baby no matter the situation. If the baby lives it is given up for adoption. If the baby dies it's body is donated to medical science. Abortion would essentially be abolished in favor of pre-birth adoption. At first it would work very similarly to the current situation but as technology improves there would be a higher and higher survival rate.

There are a few possible problem. One is that it would force our medical industry to spend billions on technology to bring premature babies to term. I think that this is a valuable technology, and would prime the United States to become a world leader in genetic engineering over the coming decades. The other possible drawback is that you'd get a lot of handicapped children, but I'd hope the pro-lifers could find it in their bleeding-hearts to help take care of these misfit children.

Solution achieved. Pro choices maintain the choice to abandon a pregnancy in any term and the pro lifers get the moral satisfaction of knowing that the state never condones intentionally ending a premature baby’s life. Everyone wins.

Mobsters

What do you call a group of Italians who engage in illegal activities who hold their empire through violence and bribery? The Mob.

What do you call a group of Japanese People who engage in illegal activities who hold their empire through violence and bribery? The Yakuza.

What do you call a group of White People who engage in illegal activities who hold their empire through violence and bribery? The Government.

It's sad but true. We pay taxes and in return we expect services, but taxes which we pay are gobbled up these crusty old bastards and used precious little returns to provide for our citizens. Beyond they’ve borrowed money on our behalf to the tune of over $30000 in debt per person in this country.

Corruption is particularly rampant in Banking, Medicine, and Military.
Americans already pay around 3000 dollars a year in taxes towards medicine, enough to provide universal care, but it's gobbled up by insurance companies and precious little returns as services.

The United States pays more money on Military than THE REST OF THE WORLD COMBINED. The vast majority of this money lines the pockets of the military establishment including Bush and Cheney themselves. Indeed our president is a 3rd generation war profiteer. The Grandfather did business with the Nazis in WWII. Bush Sr. made millions for the Bush Family business, Dresser Industries, by buying KBR prior to the 1st gulf war, and both Bush and Cheney made BILLIONS on Iraq as Halliburton bought Dresser Industries for the Bushes for 6 billion prior to the invasion of Iraq, and Halliburton has since made more than 20 from the war.

Indeed we're oppressed by criminal government. Awesome.

It doesn't seem as bad because we all pay. There's no brick thrown through the window. There's no wise guy on the corner. There's just the reality that you've been robbed to the tune of around $5000 this year through misused taxes and money borrowed in your name. If you try to get your money back you'll be imprisoned by the same origination which stole it.

That's a mafia and that's our government.
